Salt
Salt is essential to human health. We need some salt for human bodily function, at least ¼ tsp but no more than about 1 tsp. An excessive amount of salt can cause high blood pressure and other health problems. . I choose salt with iodine because that’s important for thyroid health. Salt is necessary for flavoring food and comes in many varieties. It is also used as a preservative; bacteria can't thrive where there is a lot of salt. During biblical times, salt was important for preserving food and making it last longer. There weren’t any refrigerators during the time of Jesus. Salt was a sign of God’s covenant faithfulness to Israel.
Matthew 5:13 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
Onions
Onions are tasty, but not raw. Raw onion is not good, but when you cook them, you can make all kinds of flavorful meals. Onion soup, caramelized onions, onion fries, onion tart, any meal where onions are the star of the show.
Garlic
The aroma of freshly peeled garlic sautéed in olive oil will fill your home with the wonderful scent of garlic in a matter of minutes. A delicious gluten-free pasta with spaghetti sauce and gluten-free garlic bread is the perfect garlic-filled meal. I have to make my own garlic bread these days, but I like the experimentation, and I can make it however I like; I don't have to be concerned about what’s in it when I make it myself. I have made my own garlic seasoning by buying fresh garlic and drying it myself. Garlic is pretty healthy; it's low in calories, carbs, and sugar and high in potassium and calcium.
